Huurretta ruohikossa

Sadepäivän jälkeen oli yöpakkasta. Ja aamulla oli aivan ihana huurteinen nurmikko. Tuli ihan Suomen syksy mieleen! Tiesin, kokeneena eränaisena (ha!), että kun auringonsäteet tavoittavat nurmikon, huurteesta ei ole pian jäljellä kuin muisto vain. Niinpä kiireesti sisälle, kamera käteen ja nurmikolle konttailemaan.

Sitten auringonsäteet saapuivat. Voi miten se on kaunista, tuo vihreä ruoho, kimaltavan valkoinen huurre ja kultaiset auringonsäteet.

Kun konttailin tuolla ruohikossa, kissa kiinnostui puuhailuistani. Se tuli kiehnäämään ja puskemaan, ja heilutti kameraa niin, että piti kantaa kissa pyykkitupaan siitä häiritsemästä, kun se ei uskonut poistönimisiäni.

Rain - Sade

It started to rain today. In the morning I ran to the laundry room, started a load. It was cloudy, not too cold. When I came out, it was raining, soft little drops that freckled our cemented yard.

In the afternoon I went out to take pictures. Let it be a good rain for the winter crops! It has not rained for weeks here.

Tänään alkoi sataa. Menin aamulla pyykkituvalle ja laitoin koneen pyörimään. Ilma oli pilvinen, ja lämpimämpi kuin parina viimeisenä päivänä. Kun tulin taas ulos, oli alkanut sataa; pieniä, keveitä pisaroita, jotka pilkuttivat pihasemetin.

Iltapäivällä menin ulos ottamaan sadekuvia. Nyt saisi sataa kunnolla talvisatoa varten! Täällä ei ole satanutkaan viikkoihin.

These galoshes are very Central Asian. You wear them with soft, sole-less leather boots. My son had been growing his feet, so these are really, really tight! We need to buy new pairs for all of our kids.

Nämä kalossit on niin keski-aasialaiset kuin olla voi. Niiden sisällä käytetään pehmeitä nahkakenkiä. Poika on kasvattanut jalkojansa oikein kunnolla, nämä kalossit ova ihan liian tiukat. Kaikille lapsille pitää ostaa uudet parit.

This is how dusty they are. It has not rained enough yet in this picture, but they will be dust free once it really starts raining.

Tämmöstä pölyä sinne on kerääntynyt. Vielä ei ole satanut tarpeeksi, jotta kaikki pöly olisi pois.

I like rainy days, but I am especially thankful for our warm house! Coal is heating it nicely.

Hiking

Here I am, in a middle of our hike. When I say "hike", remember that we have three kids with us, all under school age, so it was not very impressive climbing. But fun, nevertheless! The weather was really nice too. I found my sports pants a bit too snug, and I imagined how they would get looser during the hike. They did not. Hmmmm... too many muffins for breakfast, perhaps?

You cannot find a place with absolutely no people in Central Asia. If nothing else, there are the shepherds. I do not know if they go home for the night, but I think they do. I cannot imagine what the animals are eating....there are only thorny bushes and dust, as far as I can see.

Here is my attempt to do macro photography. A rock with dry, black moss on it. Pretty, huh? Improving my skills in photography is in my unwritten list of New Year Resolutions, definitely! I read a quote in one photographing site that said "Your first 10, 000 photos are your worst".

I went through my folders of photos and cried.

And then I was grumpy for the rest of the day and decided to stop trying.

And then I decided to read the manual of my camera again, and take notes.

And I will take more and more photos...watch out!

And I should just start saving money for a new camera with couple of nice lenses.

I have so much to learn!

Our family towards the end of the hike. It is interesting to see the different temperatures that run in the family. No, I do not mean to say 'temperaments', but as I wrote 'temperatures'. As usual, I am afraid of freezing to solid ice. I have taken off one fleece, but the fleece vest and the scarf are still on. My oldest daughter loves to be warm as well, and is happy carrying all the beautiful rocks she found in her purse. My husband and my son have thrown away their sweat shirts miles ago.

Exploring the ground. She found out that the dry, thorny bushes hurt if you squeeze them in your fingers...

..but the rocks are fun to pick and carry for a while. It was great to see her toddling on the steep mountain side. Our yard is so flat. Here you actually need to use the sense of balance!

Just before we were leaving, we saw a herd of horses far away. Horses are so graceful.

Uusi vuosi, uudet kujeet

Hyvää uutta vuotta!

Vuoden vaihtuminen meni täälläkin ihan hauskasti. Lapset polttivat pikku sähikäisiä kadulla ennen nukkumaanmenoa, ja seurustelivat vieraiden kanssa. En ollut ollenkaan aikonut valvoa yli puolenyön, mutta innostuimme vieraiden kanssa pelaamaan Settlers of Catan pöytäpeliä ja sen parissa sekä saunoessa aikahan kului ihan huomaamatta.

Uuden vuoden päivänä meidät oli kutsuttu maaseutukylään häihin. Siellä söimme Oshia ja tanssimme kovaksi tallautuneella mutapihalla lämpimässä auringonpaisteessa. Täällä ei ole vielä satanut ollenkaan, ja vaikka nautinkin aurinkoisista päivistä, toivon jo, että sade pesisi pölyt jo pois. Pääsisi sitten siihen mutakauteen, ja hytisemään pattereiden viereen.

Tänään veimme lapset ja vieraat vuorille kävelemään. Ihana raikas ilma ja taas tuo lämmin auringonpaiste helli meitä. Mukana oli lämmintä kaakaota ja pikku naksuja, ja näimme lehmälauman (onko se sana?), vuohilauman, ja hevoslauman. Kuopuskin pääsi kävelemään vuorimaastossa, ja horjui ja huojui siellä epätasaisella maalla niin hellyyttävästi.

Haluan mietiskellä uuden vuoden alussa uuden vuoden lupauksia....en kuitenkaan sellaisia, jotka parin viikon päästä haihtuvat ja unohtuvat, vaan ihan oikeita muutoksia elämään. Siis tarpeeksi pieniä, jotka saa toteutettua. Yritin aloittaa sokerilakon, jo heti joulun jälkeen. Tuumin, että harjoittelen näin aluksi, jotta sitten tammikuussa sujuu. Aamutee ilman sokeria, päiväkahvi ilman sokeria. Plääh! Ihan mautonta. Nyt sitten muutin sokerilakon niin, että käytän vähemmän sokeria kuumissa juomissa kuin ennen, ja voisi ottaa sen karkkipäivänkin käyttöön, eikö? Ettei mene liian tiukaksi, siihenhän ne monet hyvät suunnitelmat ja lupaukset kaatuu.

Näistä kaikesta kirjoittelen tässä tammikuun aikana. Apua, nyt on jo uusi vuosiluku!

Joulupläjäys

Haluan nauttia Joulusta ihan täysillä. Kukaan muu meidän naapurustosta ei edes vietä Joulua. Minulle niin tärkeä ja odotettu juhla, toisille ihan tavallinen viikonloppu. Mutta me nautimme Joulunvietosta ja Joulurauhasta...ystävien kanssa olemisesta, hyvästä ruoasta. Lasten lahjojen aukasua on niin mahtavaa seurata. Oli aivan ihana Jouluaatto!

Haluan myös venyttää Joulun tuntua mahdollisimman pitkälle. Tapaninpäivän kahvihetkelle katoin mahdollisimman jouluisen kattauksen. Punainen joululiina, vihreä ja punainen kynttilä, kaikki koristeet mitä meiltä löytyy, lauloimme joululauluja ja kävimme läpi Jouluevankeliumin Luukaan mukaan.

Mutta nyt en halua enää blogata Joulusta! Aion nauttia siitä Loppiaiseen asti, ja sitten riisumme kuusen, mutta bloggailen vaihteeksi Keski-Aasian elämästä... Joten tässä sitten meidän viimeiset Joulukuvat. Ehkä. On ne videot mitä otettiin lapsista ja isovanhemmillehan tuli vähän niinkuin luvattua...

Pipparkaakorit leivottiin, ihan kahteen otteeseen. Tein talonkin, mutta se pitäisi vielä koota. Uudeksi Vuodeksi sitten. En oikein tiedä siitä sokerin polttamisesta. Ja söimme myös taikinaa, ihan luvan kanssa. Se kuuluu Jouluun.

(Vanhin tyttäreni myi meille tänä iltana leipomiaan piparkakkuja. Hyviä olivat. Ja pitäähän sitä toisen liikevaistoa tukea. Oppii rahan arvon, ja työn.)

Pieni karkkivaras. Oli se niin söpöä seurata toisen karkkikulholla vierailua. Sai se niitä ottaa, eli ei ollut oikeasti mitään varastelua, mutta tuli herttaisia kuvia tuosta taaperon kurottelemisesta. Ne on iranilaisia toffeita, löytyi pääkaupungista iso purkki. Naminam.

Ja se perinteinen ryhmäkuva. Se on kuule vaikeaa saaha lapsista järkevä ja julkaisukelpoinen kuva. Siellä leikitään kielellä ja purraan toisten käsiä. Tai omia. Yritin tuommosella keltasella joulupukkikammotuksella saaha pienimmän istumaan ja nauramaan iloisesti. Eihän se suostunut edes istumaan ennenkuin sai sen joulupukin purtavaksi. Hiki tuli kuvaajalla, mutta yksi julkaisukelpoinen kuva sieltä tuli yhteen joulutervehdykseen. Taas yksi joulumuisto, josta rikkain on se itse kuvan otto.

Toivon, että sinunkin Joulu on saanut olla ihanaa aikaa, yksin tai yhdessä! Ensi vuonna fiilistellään uudestaan!

Dear friends and family,

The Christmas Eve has started wonderfully for us. We had nice breakfast in the big guest room. Children are asking when we will open the presents and "cannot wait till evening". We will shortly go to friends house for lunch - with all the traditional Finnish dishes.

We want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Jouluaatto on lähteny ihanasti käyntiin. Söimme herkullisen aamupalan isossa vierashuoneessa. Lapset kyselevät milloin lahjat aukaistaan ja eivät millään jaksaisi odottaa iltaan asti. Kohta lähdemme ystävien luokse Jouluaterialle.

Christmas Party Decorations

I love having friends over for Christmas Party! We have done it for three years now, and it is a highlight of the season for us.

Because I am me, I would happily decorate for a whole day or three, but could leave cooking for someone else. We are such a large crowd, with children, that everyone contributes with food and desserts. I baked Cinnamon Rolls last week and froze most of it...so it was really easy to just do my part of the cooking. Of course we had no electricity for most of the day, but I cooked on bottled gas anyway...

It have bought these icicles in Finland...I guess. They were very carefully wrapped and hidden from children for years! I would find them every now and then, but not in the right time! I found them in December this year, and wanted to use them. We had some spray paint and I knew exactly what to do. Some persimmon trees had broken branches and I wanted them sprayed with white paint. So easy and quick, and such a cute winter look! Welcome to the winter wonderland (it still looks like September outside).

I got this glass angel from my Mom last summer. So cute and tiny, and perfect with the icicles.

I have several angel decorations so they were on the shelf together with star lights and glass vases with the branches in them.

Beautiful cross stitching on a linen bag and one of my crocheted angels.

On a different shelf I had the Finnish Advent candle holder with the song we usually sing when lighting the candles. Perfectly equipped with the match box...

Because we were spray painting already, we just got wild and pulled some branches off of the bushes in the yard...they got to be silver and gold. I am not very experienced with creating center pieces with plants and flowers, though I love them very much, so I just stuck them in a bowl with apples and mandarins.

Here you have a very hazy table top view. I did not set the plates on the table as we had a buffet table for food...With a big crowd the easy takes over the proper :)

I was very pleased to find this blue material with golden starts on it in the bazaar. Usually there are no Christmas materials, so I bought 6 meters as soon as I saw this! And it was at least $4.50 for all of it!

Did you notice that I have two different kinds of glasses on the table...Again, lots of guests...I really should go and buy enough glasses for the next year!

Christmas is a wonderful time.

And we are very blessed to have wonderful friends here!

Neljäs Adventti

Nyt syttyy neljäs kynttilä,

jo joulu sarastaa.

Me odotamme Jeesusta,

hän kaikki pelastaa.

Lauloimme illalla isompien lasten kanssa joululauluja Adventin vieton merkeissä.

Pienimmäinen oli jo nukkumassa.

Lapsilla oli jo yöpaidat päällä. Tässä meidän sankari, jolla on oma kulunut "rätti" kiedottuna kaulaan viitaksi. Tuon vauvanpeiton kanssa hän on nukkunut ihan pienestä asti, ja siitä tuli se nukkurätti. Ilman sitä ei saa unta. Sehän on neljässä vuodessa jo ihan kauhtunut, mutta rakas kuitenkin.

Viime kerralla jäivät kynttilät palamaan vähän pitemmäksi aikaa,

joten neljäs kynttilä on paljon korkeampi muita.

Lapset seuraavat tarkkaan miten isän kynttilänsytytys sujuu...
